The Washington, DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance (DCHBCUAA) was founded with a mission to unite and amplify the voices of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) alumni’s voices while positively impacting the community. Our history is a testament to the power of collaboration, resilience, and dedication to supporting HBCUs.
We are a collective of passionate Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) alumni dedicated to creating meaningful change. Founded on the principles of unity, empowerment, and community impact, our alliance brings together graduates from diverse HBCUs to amplify our collective voice and drive positive transformation.
Our mission transcends individual achievements. We are committed to supporting HBCU students, celebrating our rich educational heritage, and leveraging our professional networks to create opportunities for current and future generations. Through collaborative initiatives, scholarship programs, and community engagement, we honor the legacy of our alma maters while building a brighter, more inclusive future.
In July 2011, a group of passionate Washington, DC, HBCU alumni came together to create an organization that would celebrate the legacy of HBCUs while addressing the unique challenges faced by their communities. Driven by a vision of unity and empowerment, the DC HBCU Alumni Alliance was established as a coalition of alumni associations committed to giving back and lifting others.
The Washington DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance (DCHBCUAA) embodies the strength of collaboration and the enduring legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The story begins in January 2004, when the Metro-Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Florida A&M University hosted a social mixer and fundraiser. This event was created to foster fellowship and fun, and other HBCU alumni chapters were invited to participate. Beyond raising funds for individual chapters, it served as a platform to recruit new members and build unity among alumni networks. This gathering sparked a vision to formalize collaboration and amplify the collective impact of HBCU alumni.
Although initial participation was modest, its enthusiasm led to the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance (AHBCUAA) creation. During its first meeting, HBCU graduates envisioned a dynamic partnership where alumni chapters could pool resources, host impactful fundraising events, and expand community service initiatives. This vision grew into a movement that embodied the spirit of giving back to students and contributing to the advancement of higher education.
Inspired by the success of AHBCUAA, HBCU alumni in the Washington, DC area recognized the opportunity to create a similar alliance. In January 2012, fueled by overwhelming enthusiasm and support from local chapters, the idea took shape. With guidance from AHBCUAA and months of dedicated planning, the Washington DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance was officially incorporated on June 6, 2012, in the District of Columbia.
Since its inception, the DCHBCUAA has united alumni across the region to create lasting change. From fundraising for scholarships to spearheading impactful community service initiatives, the Alliance reflects the shared commitment of HBCU graduates to uplift the next generation of leaders. Today, the Washington DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance continues to foster fellowship, strengthen communities, and ensure that the legacy of HBCUs shines brightly for generations to come.
